25 years windtest grevenbroich gmbh

(Grevenbroich, October 2021) 25 years ago, on October 8, 1996, windtest grevenbroich gmbh was founded. Now, on the occasion of this anniversary, it’s time to celebrate and look back with excitement and pride on a long and successful company history as well as on 23 years of test field operation near the company headquarters.

Milestones

1996: Foundation of windtest grevenbroich gmbh and construction of the complete infrastructure of our test site close to the company headquarters in Grevenbroich, Germany.

1997: Start of the R+D project »Wind profile measurement with Sound Detection and Ranging (SoDAR)« – continuous measurements of wind speed, wind direction and turbulence using Remote Sensing technology (RSD).

1998: Obtaining accreditation according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, installation and commissioning of the first three prototypes on the test site in Grevenbroich (DeWind D4, Südwind S50, Zond 750).

2000: Commissioning of the N80 wind turbine on the test site in Grevenbroich – at that time with 2,000 kW output, the most powerful wind turbine worldwide.

2002: Membership of MEASNET for power curve measurements as well as noise emission measurements. Member of FGW e.V. Fördergemeinschaft Windenergie und andere Dezentrale Energien.

2004: Starting international business activities. Dismantling of the prototypes Südwind S50, Zond 750 part of the first generation of erected prototypes on our test site.

2005: First high altitude/rescue training on our test site in Grevenbroich.

2008: Move to a new larger company building. Pilot hybrid-project (small wind turbine with PV modules and fuel cell) on our test site in Grevenbroich.

2009: Construction and commissioning of a 2.3 MW wind turbine with one of the world's first concrete hybrid towers on our test site in Grevenbroich.

2010: Cooperation and common operation of the ACCRES Windlab test site in Lelystad, Netherlands, with our partner Ecofys Netherlands B.V.

2011: Our first own FRT container is put into operation, thus significantly expanding the company's competence in the field of grid integration services.

2013: Commissioning of a verification station for Remote Sensing Devices (RSD) on the company's own test site.

2014: Foundation of the subsidiary windtest north-america inc..

2016: windtest grevenbroich gmbh is honored with the KlimaExpo.NRW Award.

2017: First IECRE conformity for the competence areas power performance measurement and load measurement.

2018: We celebrate 20 years of successful operation of our test site in Grevenbroich, Germany.

2019: Our third own FRT container (10 MW) is put into operation and thus significantly expanded the company’s competence once again in the field of grid integration services.

2020: IECRE conformity for two further areas of competence (acoustic emission measurement and measurement of electrical characteristics).

2021: With our international team we are convinced to face the future challenges the field of renewable energies will bring.

2022: Commissioning of a further verification station for Remote Sensing Devices (RSD) in the middle of the year.
