windtest north-america Contributes to Chava Small Wind Turbine Project

Donation to the Iowa Lakes Community College for Education and Promotion of Small Wind in Iowa

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (April 6, 2016) – windtest north-america has made it official and given Iowa Lakes Community College a financial contribution as part of its agreement to help with the new, prototype wind turbine which is being erected at the Iowa Lakes Community College Farm Laboratory west of Emmetsburg.

Monday, Monika Krämer, President and CEO of Windtest, turned over a check for $5,000 to Iowa Lakes Community College President Valerie Newhouse to assist in the completion of the Chava small wind vertical axis turbine. These funds are just part of the commitment the German-based company made to the project and is a perfect match for Windtest’s operational expertise. Part of their early testing has helped Chava identify a need to upgrade the prototype to ultimately make the vertical axis turbine even better than the first version.

“We want to express our appreciation and commitment to the longstanding partnership with Iowa Lakes Community College,” said Krämer of Windtest. “Our testing program helps to improve the quality of this turbine and it also helps to promote the small wind turbine industry in Iowa and in the U.S. market in general. Tested and certified turbines bring the highest value to turbine operators – and landowners.”

Windtest has been a partner in the project since the early stages of development.

“This Chava turbine is the only one in the Midwest and just one of two in the entire United States,” said President Newhouse. “This has also allowed students in our Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program to have a chance to learn about – and assist with – the launch of this new type of turbine.”

Once the prototype gets up and running later this spring, the energy generated by the turbine will power the College Farm Lab.
